International Student Programme at Stockton Riverside College

Why study at Stockton Riverside College?

Stockton Riverside College is a major provider of further education within the Tees Valley, providing vocational education and training to around 10,000 full and part-time students in 2009-2010.

We have a dedicated team of management and staff, outstanding facilities and a proven track record in education.

The college works constantly to provide an excellent standard of education, training and pastoral support to all its students to enable them to become effective learners and achieve their goals in life.

A successful Virtual Learning Environment offers the opportunity for access to course information outside the college from home and a range of learning resources are offered through outreach or satellite centres resulting in a college that is truly community-based and built around the needs and expectations of local people.

In addition to academic and vocational education, the college provides a pastoral care officer for overseas students to ensure the students have everything necessary to achieve their qualification..  The Pastoral officer will organise social events, help the students settle in to their new college, provide housing and living assistance and generally be on hand to ensure that all of the students have a wonderful time at college.

The college, located in the Tees Valley, in based in a town which has all the benefits students come to expect of a major educational centre.  We have Durham University less than 1km away and Teesside University only 6km away with easy regular public transport.


What is Stockton Riverside College like?

Each year, hundreds of students undertake courses at Stockton Riverside College on pre-degree programmes, continuing on to Degree course at the college or at one of the local Universities.

Many other students register for shorter programmes with a view to improving their English skills for university studies. With such a highly diverse population of international students and staff, you will find a welcoming and friendly community on arrival.

Helping you into University…

If your academic qualifications do not yet meet University entrance requirements for undergraduate or postgraduate degrees you may want a programme that takes you to the right academic level by improving your English language and academic skills. Stockton Riverside College can offer you a way to do this through the Year Zero programme.

You could study for one year at Stockton Riverside College improving your English Language and Study Skills and then undertake a three year undergraduate degree in Business at Teesside University.

Alternatively if your Academic skills meet the entrance requirement you could follow our 6 month IELTS improver course aimed at developing your English skills to IELTS level 6 the standard University entrance level requirement.


Year Zero

During Year Zero, you will study English at Stockton Riverside College as well as improving your study skills. After successful completion of Year Zero at Stockton Riverside College, you will transfer to the University of your choice to complete your degree.


Entry requirements

For the IELTS improver course you will need to already be at level 5

For the Year zero course for Business Studies you will need to demonstrate a good academic record at senior secondary/high school or junior college. Students who have taken A-levels, International Baccalaureate or a similar examination, but who have not achieved the grades required for direct entry to the first year of their chosen university course may also be eligible to apply.
