Helena Kennedy Awards 2012
Since the Foundation began in 1998, it has supported over 1000 students from further education colleges and adult education institutes, to progress to higher education.
All of these students have faced personal and financial hardship and worked hard to overcome barriers to continuing in education. Many of our award winners have now
graduated and gained employment in a wide range of fields.
The Foundation provides bursaries of £1500 to support students whose personal and financial circumstances make progression to higher education difficult, but a Helena Kennedy
Award is about much more than money. Our experience over the last twelve years has shown that offering students personal and practical support and opportunities throughout
their time in higher education and beyond can improve a student's chance of success and ultimately enhance employability. The HKF award is a package of financial, personal
and practical support and opportunities designed to support transition into higher education, enhance the student's experience at university and improve chances of employment
after graduation.
More information can be found at http://www.hkf.org.uk
Please check the following documents for an update on the student finance package for 2012/13 from the Secretary of State, Vince Cable
and David Willetts, Minister for Universities and Science.

BT World of Work is a Work Inspiration program that runs for schools,
colleges, charities and other organisations, to inspire them about what
the world of work has to offer.
The event will take place at Middlesbrough Telephone Exchange, Marton
Road, Middlesbrough, 18th May 2012.
Work Inspiration modules cover - 'All About Me', 'Look Behind the
Scenes' and 'Careers Happen'. The day is spent either in the classroom
or on the floor and job shadowing a volunteer. The participants are
given a workbook to record what they learn during each activity.
At a typical event our volunteers will each do a short talk about their
own career path and how their team fits into BT. We then cover BT as an
organisation and some of the work we do in volunteering and supporting
local and national charities. Each event is tailored to the
participating group and host site, making best use of the skills and
experience of our volunteers, while meeting the learning requirements of
the participants.
The agenda for the event would be built around your groups
requirements, normally they have a mixture of job shadowing, skills
workshops, presentations and team building but if there's anything you'd
like to include specifically we can normally accommodate. Each
participant is awarded a certificate for the work they've completed
during the event.
Go to the BT World of Work website
for more information.
